Gallery 4-Malta
Dedicated to the Maltese Islands-GC
This page will be dedicated to the Islands of Malta, where I was born and grew up. I will include some of the things and ideas that influenced me while I was growing up on the Island. In the early 60's the British Military presence in Malta was still in evidence, and my family, and their peers were still recovering from the trauma of the 1940-1945 war. Presently Malta is a popular holiday destination and it is claimed to have one of the best seas for scuba diving. Historically Malta has 5000 years of history, predominately Catholic, and a member of the EU the strategic position of the Island is not as important as it use to be during the 19th and 20th Century. During World War II it was claimed that Malta a 20 miles x 15 miles Island was the most bombed country on Earth by the Luftwaffe. Malta never surrendered hence the George Cross was awarded to the people of Malta in 1942.
"To honour her brave people I award the George Cross to the Island Fortress of Malta to bear witness to a heroism and devotion that will long be famous in history.", (sgd) George R.I. The cross is on the Maltese National Flag.
